The Gaja cyclonic storm strengthened after the deep pressure zone in the Bay of Bengal became stronger and Gaja cyclonic storm will be moving through Cuddalore and Sriharikota on the northern Tamilnadu and southern Andhra Pradesh coast on 15th November 2018, Thursday.
The cyclone named ‘Gaza’ is located at a distance of about 860 kilometers in the northeast of Chennai and is progressing at a speed of 12 kilometers per hour. Within next 24 hours, there is a possibility of turning into a ‘severe cyclonic storm’.
There is a possibility of winds blowing around 80-90 kilometers per hour above Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh. Talking to the reporters, Regional Cyclone Warning Center Director S. Balachandran said that in the coastal areas of northern Tamil Nadu, the average rainfall is expected on the night of November 14 and some places are likely to receive heavy rains.
He said that on 15th November average rainfall is expected in many places whereas in some places heavy rains are expected. Fishermen have been advised not to go fishing in the sea since November 12 and those who are present in the sea have been asked to return.
The Indian Meteorological Department, however, said that on November 15, the cyclone crosses the coast of northern Tamilnadu and southern Andhra Pradesh and is likely to gradually weaken.
